On another edge of the leaf, there is a tiny droplet who has been crying softly. It seems that this young child has lost her mother, who probably bounced off the leaf a few minutes ago when the wind shifted during the temperature change as the sun was rising. The droplet is surprised by the colors of a strange creature sitting on another part of the leaf. She turns in the other direction and sees a bright multi-colored drop that seems to be coming closer.

This larger drop quickly turns bright orange and announces that her name is Poppy.  Immediately, the small white droplet feels comforted by the young teenage water drop named Poppy. Poppy explains that the creature is a beautiful Morpho Butterfly and will be bright blue when it awakens. She tells the child that Costa Rica is a magical place with colorful water drops, fragrant flowers and fantastic animals. Poppy continues with a funny story about baby birds playing in a nest when one accidentally eats a small twig instead of a worm! Even though the child droplet still misses her mother, she starts to giggle at this story and soon begins to sparkle and grow a little larger. That is what happens to water droplets when they find a new friend.

Poppy is named after the California poppy. She is bright and colorful and came to be in a field in Sonoma County near a dairy farm. She assures the child that they will find her mother somewhere near the tree. Poppy decides they should play a game to help the child forget her worries about her mother. She finds an oily substance on the tree next to them, then she puts some on her feet and helps the child do the same, and together they slip and slide all over the leaf. They zoom over the heads of several droplets, who yell after them to be more careful.  Continued…
